Don Mattingly finally reveals the real reason he left the Blue Jays after the World Series

Toronto Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly decided to leave the organization last week and finally announced why he made the decision.

The Blue Jays announced that last week that Mattingly has decided to part with the Blue Jays organization in search on new opportunities.

Don Mattingly breaks silence on why he left Toronto

Mattingly spent the last three season as the bench coach for manager John Schneider as he helped him navigate his first big league manager job.
Mike Wilner from the Toronto Star stated that left because he felt as though his job in Toronto was complete.
«Mattingly's decision to leave after three years as manager John Schneider's bench coach (plus duties as offensive coordinator in 2024) came as a surprise, but he feels as though his job was complete,» -Wilner

The Blue Jays now former bench coach finally spoke on his reasoning during a recent interview as he stated that he was brought in to help Schneider get started as a manager.
«I came to Toronto to be along John's side as he was getting started,» Mattingly said, per Wilner. «Just be a voice - an older voice, a more experienced voice - and just allow him to do his thing but kind of be an earpiece for him, another set of eyes.» -Mattingly

Now that Schneider has led the Blue Jays to a World Series apperance and was up for AL Manager of the Year, he feels as though he did what he needed to in Toronto and that his experience can be used elsewhere.
Schneider was a finalist for the American League Manager of the Year Award this week, and it seems Mattingly feels he can lend his experience elsewhere. -Chawaga

There was rumors that Mattingly left as he was looking for a job as a manager but it looks like that is not the case as he is rumored to be eyeing a job with the Philadelphia Phillies to be their new bench coach.
«The Phillies have reached out and expressed interest in hiring Don Mattingly, who just left his job as Blue Jays bench coach,» -Heyman

Wherever Mattingly ends up, he will surely be missed in Toronto and the fans wish him nothing but the best in the future.
