The Blue Jays announced yesterday the signing on high school shortstop Gavin Smith to a contract.
Smith was drafted in in the 17th round, 517th overall by the Blue Jays in the 2024 MLB draft from Valley Christian High School.
We are extremely excited to announce that a recent graduate, Gavin Smith ('24), has become the first Trojan in school history to be a draft pick in the MLB! Congrats to Gavin on being selected no. 517 overall by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 17th round. We are so proud of you, Gavin, and we are excited to see wherever the Lord takes you next! GO TROJANS!
It looks like Smith has decided to skip college and enter the pro game right out of high school. Fans are interested to see how this turns out since most players do not take this route anymore.
