Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is off the IL and back in the Blue Jays' lineup today for their game against the Yankees.
Toronto reinstated him from the seven-day concussion IL, right on the timeline the team had been targeting.
He'll be active for today's game after clearing every checkpoint along the way, including a rehab stint and a positive workout in Tampa.
The corresponding move sends Davis Schneider to Triple-A.
Schneider had been pushing hard for a recall with a monster stretch in the minors, carrying a .920 OPS before this news came down.
Instead, it's his big-league roster spot that clears the way for Guerrero's return.
That's the blunt math of an active roster. Someone comes back, and someone else pays for it.
Why Guerrero's return changes everything in this lineup
Guerrero has just seven home runs all season, and Toronto's offense has felt every game he's missed since the collision that sent him to the IL.
Getting him back gives John Schneider his full lineup card again for the first time in over a week.
The Blue Jays sit at 62-66, one game back of a wild-card spot, in a stretch where his bat could swing multiple games.
Whether Guerrero picks up right where his rehab stint left off, with the double and the two walks, is the next thing to watch.
For Davis Schneider, this is a tough break after doing everything he could in Triple-A to force the issue.
His numbers down there haven't gone unnoticed. Whether he gets another look before rosters expand in September is still very much in play.
Are the Blue Jays right to option Davis Schneider now that Guerrero is back?
