Blue Jays pitcher Jose Berrios might be on his way out of Toronto
The Toronto Blue Jays have a hole in their starting rotation as of right now but they seem to be looking at the open market and not at current pitcher Jose Berrios.
Berrios was recently spoken about since fans were questioning where he was during the Blue Jays playoff run and it looks like he was apparently taking care of some family matters.
Jose Berrios might be traded this off-season
In a recent report from Joel Reuter from Bleacher Report, Berrios' contract was in the top 10 worst in the MLB with his $22.33 million per season average which is why the Blue Jays might look to moving off from him.
Recently, Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report wrote an article titled "MLB's 10 Most Untradeable Contracts." Reuter named Berrios' contract with the Blue Jays as the ninth most untradable contract in his article. Berrios has three years, $67 million remaining on his deal, for an average of $22.33 million per year. Berrios' performance since 2022 has not reflected those earnings. -Ferraro
Berrios has been a big part of the organization for many years now but it seems to be that moving forward the team might be better off finding a more reliable pitcher since in the past he has had some very big highs but also some extremely low lows.
Reuter even stated that if Berrios was a free agent he would likely land a one year deal worth $13-15 million which is almost $10 million less than he is getting right now.
"If he were a free agent, it's not out of the question to think he might command $12-15 million on a one-year deal, but the three years remaining on his seven-year, $131 million contract are going to make it virtually impossible to trade him," -Reuter
If the Blue Jays were to move on from Berrios, they would certainly not get much in return since the opposing team would have to eat quite a big contract.
The other option for the Blue Jays is keeping Berrios in the bullpen which is where they had him at the end of the year
