The Blue Jays are being urged to trade for Athletics infielder Zack Gelof. He'd bring power and versatility to a lineup that badly needs both.

FanSided's Ben Wrixon made the prediction. He wrote that Gelof “quietly had a great season” for the Athletics in 2026.

The numbers back that up. He hit 22 home runs with a .796 OPS and a 116 OPS+.

He added 16 stolen bases. That's a rare blend of pop and speed for a Toronto team that ranked 27th in steals.

It was a comeback year, too. Gelof struggled in 2024 and missed most of 2025 with injuries before breaking through.

Where would he play? Just about anywhere.

Zack Gelof's versatility fits Toronto's second base and outfield holes

He came up as a second baseman, played mostly third base in 2026 and also appeared at all three outfield spots.

That's exactly what Toronto needs. Second base is unsettled after Ernie Clement's slide, and the corner outfield still needs a bat.

The Athletics might listen for the right price. Mark Kotsay's club desperately needs starting pitching, and Wrixon suggested a package headlined by a younger pitching prospect.

Gelof is 27, arbitration-eligible and still inexpensive. That makes him attractive to both sides.

Toronto should make the call, but keep Nolan Perry out of it. Johnny King or Gage Stanifer could headline a deal for a player who adds power without a nine-figure contract.

He's the multi-tool you keep in the truck. Whatever breaks, he can probably help fix it.

The need is clear. “We never put the ball in the seats,” Ross Atkins said of the 2026 offence.

Gelof wouldn't solve everything alone. But paired with a free-agent bat, he could help turn last year's biggest weakness into something closer to a strength.
