Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins spoke to the media this afternoon and gave an update on Jose Berrios' future with the team.
Atkins spoke to the media this afternoon about quite a few things, including manager John Schneider's contract which the team has decided to exercise his contract option for 2026.
Ross Atkins speaks on Jose Berrios' future in Toronto
Berrios was moved out of the starting rotation and the end of the season as Trey Yesavage came up from the minors and not long after that went down with an injury which kept him out the rest of the season.
Despite the unfortunate injury, Atkins stated that Berrios is expected to have a regular off-season and will be ready in time for Spring Training.
Jose Berrios "should have a completely normal off-season and be ready for spring training," Ross Atkins said.
While it looks like Berrios has recovered from his elbow injury, most are surprised to know that the Blue Jays expect him to return since fans are not sure where he now fits into the lineup and figured he would be traded this off-season.
Would expect them to trade him & eat some of his salary
While a trade is certainly not out of the possibilities, Berrios seems to be in the team's plans for the 2026 season but there has been no update if that will be out of the bullpen or starting rotation.
Berrios was clearly upset when he lost his spot in the starting rotation so it will be interesting to see if he would be interested in a relief job or not.
