Blue Jays roster shake up: Ali Sanchez has been claimed off waivers

The Blue Jays announced that Sanchez had been designated for assignment a couple days ago as Buddy Kennedy was called up from the Buffalo Bisons.

The Red Sox claimed Sanchez off waivers which puts the Blue Jays in a tough position once again with their catcher depth as they now have one less catcher in their system in case of injury.

This is a tough break for the Blue Jays as they were hoping that Sanchez would go unclaimed so that they could keep him since he has been a great replacement for both Tyler Heineman and Kirk while they went down with an injury.

In 8 games this season with the Blue Jays, Sanchez had a .238 batting average with a .238 on base percentage to go along with 5 hits, 0 homeruns and 0 RBIs.

The Blue Jays recently acquired Brandon Valenzuela in a trade with the San Diego Padres which did give some additional catcher depth but he has only just begun playing in Triple-A which could make the jump to the majors tough.

Hopefully the Blue Jays will not land in anymore catcher injury trouble this season because they will have some serious issues on their hands.

Ross Atkins might need to start looking at possible catcher free agents to sign just in case some issues arise.
