Jose Berrios has been having a tough season in 2025 with some big consistency issue but his Toronto Blue Jays teammate Bo Bichette does not believe it is as bad as the media is letting on.

The Blue Jays recently gave Berrios an additional day off from the rotation hoping that it would help his game but it did quite the opposite as he had a tough performance against the Cincinnati Reds.

Berrios took the mound earlier this week after some extra time off and things went quite poorly as he only last 2 inning before being pulled as he gave up 5 hits and 2 earned runs with only 2 strikeouts in that time.
During a recent interview Bichette made some surprising remarks about his teammate stating that he has been one of the best pitchers in the league for 8 or 9 years and added that he often gives the Blue Jays a chance to win when he pitches.
"That guy's been one of the best pitchers in the league for like eight or nine years," Bichette noted, per Wilner. "Honestly, he's given us a chance to win most of the time. ... I think probably people make it a bigger deal than it is."

Bichette also added that he believes that people make a bigger deal than what it truly is when it comes to Berrios' performance this season.
These comments are quite surprising since Berrios has certainly had a tough time but when looking at his numbers overall on the year, Bichette seems to have a valid point.
In 2025, Berrios has a 4.02 ERA in 154.2 innings pitched to go along with 131 strikeouts, 1.29 WHIP and a 9-5 record on the season.
While these stats are not stellar, they are also far from bad even though his ERA is a bit worse over his last 7 games as it sits at 4.54, it is not as bad as it seems.
Fans are mostly worried about Berrios when it comes to him starting in the playoffs because that is when every game matters and the team cannot afford to give up a single game.
Overall, Bichette clearly has his teammate's back even if the media does not.
