Former beloved Toronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano has been having the worst year of his career this season with the Philadelphia Phillies and things continue to get worse.

The Blue Jays ended up walking away from Romano in the off-season due to his injuries and rough 2024 season which led him to signing with the Phillies on a one year prove it deal.

Former Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano continues to struggle with the Phillies

Romano's season in Philadelphia has been brutal to say the least and in his last 7 games prior to the All-Star break, he had a 10.50 ERA in 6 innings pitched in which he gave up 8 hits, 7 earned runs and only struck out 2 batters.
As the trade deadline approaches, the Blue Jays are now looking to acquire a new relief pitcher since they cannot count on Romano and Jose Alvarado was suspended for 80 games due to PEDs.
Jordan Romano hasn't worked out as a bounce-back free-agent signing, and José Alvarado got suspended 80 games, plus the playoffs, for performance-enhancing drug use. So even though the latter will be back soon, he'll be ineligible when the Phillies would have needed him most of all. -Roberts

According to reports, the Phillies will look to go after Washington Nationals pitcher Kyle Finnegan at the trade deadline to help out their bullpen.
"I have Kyle Finnegan going to the Phillies. He's been locking down a lot of saves for the Nats. I think they're one of like, the five guaranteed sellers... Feels like a Dombrowski guy to just make a quick swap with." -Oliver

Due to Romano's terrible year and the trade deadline approaching, Philadelphia might try to trade him at the deadline but it will not be easy since no one will want to take on his contract with his brutal ERA.
Despite a lot of skepticism from Blue Jays fans, it looks like GM Ross Atkins made the right move in getting rid of Romano and turning towards Jeff Hoffman last off-season.
