Pearson has been having a tough season in Chicago as he struggled early on in the year and spent a good portion of the season in the minors.

As the MLB season pushes to a close, many teams are getting ready for the playoffs and are getting their rosters ready with many moves taking placed over the last few days.
The Cubs announced just a couple days ago that they decided to designate Pearson for assignment after a rough 2025 season in Chicago.
The following players have been designated for assignment:

RHP Nate Pearson- Cubs
RHP Joel Payamps- Brewers
RHP Wander Suero- Mets
RHP Scott Blewett- Orioles
SS Jonathan Ornelas- Braves
After clearing waivers, which seemed like an automatic with how Pearson's season has gone, the Cubs announced that they had released Pearson into free agency.

Pearson's numbers in the majors this season were very bad as he finished with a 9.20 ERA on the season in only 14.1 innings pitched while striking out only 7 hitters.
The strange part is that when looking at his numbers in the minors, Pearson actually put up solid numbers as he had a 2.22 ERA but that did not translate to the majors.

Although a 2.22 ERA in AAA, Pearson did not have the same success in 11 appearances with the Show Cubbies - notably giving up 15 runs.
Pearson will likely be able to land himself a minor league contract in the off-season.
