Toronto Blue Jays new hitting coach David Popkins recently spoke on why Andres Gimenez has been hitting so well this season and is able to pinpoint exactly what changed everything.

Popkins has been working wonders for the Blue Jays offense so far this season as he has improved loads of players swings such as Gimenez, George Springer, Bo Bichette and many others.

Blue Jays hitting coach David Popkins pinpoints exactly what helped Andres Gimenez' swing

Gimenez has been off to an incredible start this season at the plate which pretty much no one saw coming as he has been one of the Bleu Jays best hitters with a 1.131 OPS in the first 7 games of the season to go along with a .308 batting average.
Giménez has indeed taken off. The 26-year-old has opened the season as the Blue Jays' most productive hitter, launching three of the team's five home runs while posting a 1.131 OPS across the first seven games. -Singh

Popkins stated in a recent interview that the biggest change that Gimenez made was reincorporating a leg kick to his swing which has worked wonders ever since he started using it again in Spring Training.
They'd worked on having Giménez add a leg kick, something that he had used in the past, but the change just didn't feel seamless to the left-handed hitter during the early days of spring training. He didn't want to stray too far from the toe-tap that he'd used across the past three seasons. -Singh

Gimenez was not sold at first but Popkins showed him a video of him doing it in the minors back in 2021 when his hitting was much better and then the next game Gimenez brought it back and it changed everything.
On March 3, when the Blue Jays were visiting the Detroit Tigers for a Grapefruit League game in Lakeland, Fla., Popkins showed Giménez a video from 2021. It featured the infielder playing for the Guardians' triple-A affiliate and, at the plate, he sported an open stance with a big coil of his front leg - something Giménez picked up while with the New York Mets in 2020 and carried with him after he was traded to Cleveland. -Singh

Well clearly the Blue Jays did an excellent job in hiring Popkins as he continues to work his magic on the Blue Jays hitting.
