Toronto Blue Jays former bench coach Don Mattingly recently had an interview with Jon Heyman where he spoke on Isiah Kiner-Falefa getting thrown out at home plate.
During an interview a couple weeks ago, Mattingly spoke on the incident, stating that the blame is one everyone for not being more aware of the situation.

Mattingly spoke with Heyman stating that the play where Kiner-Falefa got thrown out at home is the one play the Blue Jays wish they could have back.
The former Blue Jays bench coach added that they should have had Kiner-Falefa take a bigger lead since Daulton Varsho does not really hit to that side of the field but added that the out at home plate was not his fault.
"That's probably the one play that you feel like, if we really looked at that over again and had a little split second more time and said, 'Hey, we can be off further at third because (Daulton) Varsho is not lining out to third. If he lines out to the first, we can get that back, right? We got a little more time,'" Mattingly said when asked about the one play he wishes he could've handled differently. "So that's the one thing that you can change. But not IKF's fault - it's probably all of our faults." -Mattingly
Mattingly did not hold back as he straight up told Heyman that both him and manager John Schneider clearly missed the signs with Varsho at the plate and Kiner-Falefa with such a small lead.
"He does pull the ball. So I'd say the one thing that we kinda missed - and I'd say myself, (John Schneider) - is that Varsho does not line out to third base. He does not hit line drives on that side of the field, really. And so you can get a little bit more. But if it was a right-hand batter, IKF's probably right where he should be." -Mattingly
While many players and coaches would love to have that moment back to make the right move as a bit of a bigger lead would have like resulted in a run and a completely different outcome.
Unfortunately, that is not reality and the Blue Jays will simply have to use this moment as fuel to get back there next season.
