The Toronto Blue Jays have some big decision to make by tonight as the non-tender deadline is at 5 PM ET and looks like Eric Lauer might end up without a deal.

The Blue Jays are trying to drastically improve their starting rotation and bullpen for next season which is why some pitchers might get left out of these plans in the coming days or weeks.

The Blue Jays need to make a decision on Eric Lauer by tonight

The MLB non-tender deadline hits tonight at 5 PM ET which means the Blue Jays will need to decided if they tender an offer to Lauer, if not he will end up becoming a free agent.
Lauer was fantastic for the Blue Jays last season both in the starting rotation and bullpen which is why it would only make sense for them to bring him back especially since they would get him on a cheap deal.
Considering what Lauer did for the Blue jays in 2025, it only makes sense that he'll get a raise in 2026. But even if he is set to double his earnings, it still might end up as one of the best contracts the Blue Jays could have on their payroll in 2026. -Sookram

The Blue Jays are looking at some big time pitchers to bring in this off-season which is why every penny counts right now and Lauer is currently predicted to sign for around $4.4 million which is not a ton but Toronto might feel that this money could be spent elsewhere.
It's not as if the Blue Jays need to penny pinch, they should have lots to spend this offseason, but if they feel that $4.4 million Lauer is predicted to get in arbitration could be better spent elsewhere, then Lauer would become a free agent on Friday evening. -Sookram

Letting Lauer walk would certainly be a questionable decision since he proved how reliable he can be this past season, no matter the situation he is put into.
If the Blue Jays are able to keep him for just over $4 million, it almost seems impossible that they would let him go but unfortunately that does not mean much since the front office might see things differently.
