Former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt has yet to land himself a new contract but seems to be attracting quite a bit of attention in the free agent market.
There were rumors of the Blue Jays could look at bringing back Bassitt this off-season after he made it clear that he would love to return but after their latest signings it look that will most likely not happen.
Mets looking to sign Chris Bassitt
The Mets have made some big moves over the last few days signings players like Luke Weaver and Jorge Polanco but are still looking to add to their roster after losing a couple big names such as Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonso.
According to reports, the Mets are looking to make some aggressive moves at the mid-tier free agent market and have been linked to certain players such as Chris Bassitt, Walker Buehler and even Max Scherzer.
The Mets have been aggressive in the mid-tier starting pitching market, with names like Chris Bassitt, Lucas Giolito, Nick Martinez, Zack Littell, Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Tyler Mahle, Germán Márquez, Walker Buehler, Patrick Corbin, and Michael Lorenzen fitting that tier, per @JeffPassan
Both Bassitt and Scherzer have played for the Mets in the past and have had quite a bit of success in New York which is why it would make sense for the team to bring them back.
Mets fans seem to be liking the idea of Bassitt returning to New York as he proved to be extremely useful to the Blue Jays last season even when he was moved to the bullpen in the playoffs.
Personally, I wouldn't mind if they get one of Chris Bassitt or Zack Littell but, they NEED a frontline guy. This has to just be a depth/long relief role.
Bassitt pitched for the Mets during the 2023 season before landing in Toronto where he finished with a 3.42 ERA in 30 games with a 15-9 record and 167 strikeouts.
While Blue Jays fans would love to see him back in Toronto as a bullpen pitcher, there is a good chance that he takes a starting job if he is offered one.
