Former Blue Jays pitcher Trevor Richards has contract selected by the Kansas City Royals
The Royals announced last month that they agreed to a minor league deal with former Blue Jays pitcher Trevor Richards who was released by the Chicago Cubs early on in May.
The Royals have signed 31-year-old RHP Trevor Richards to a minor league deal and assigned him to Omaha. Seven-year MLB vet with the Marlins, Rays, Brewers, Blue Jays, and Twins with a career 4.50 ERA as a starter and reliever. Had a 4.55 ERA in 65.1 IP last year with 62 K.
The Royals selected Richards' contract to bring him up to the majors after putting up some solid numbers in Triple-A as he had a 1.69 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched in Omaha.
Unfortunately for Richards' the first two games of action he saw since yesterday have been brutal as he gave up 2 hits and 1 earned run yesterday in 1 inning pitched and gave up 2 hits and 3 earned runs today to give him an ERA of 36.00.
This is brutal for Richards who many were surprised was not able to land a major league deal in the off-season after putting up decent numbers last season with the Blue Jays and Twins.
Hopefully Richards will get another crack at it with the Royals but after these two games, there is a good chance he gets DFA'd.
