Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer was out for the first couple weeks of the months of August after taking a 97 MPH fastball to the head which he recently spoke about during an interview.

During a game against the Baltimore Orioles, Springer took a fastball straight to the head which avoided his face by inches, mostly connecting with the ear flat which led to him being on IL for a couple weeks.

George Springer speaks on how scary that concussion was for him and his family

Springer recently sat down with the Toronto Star and spoke of his injury from late July and how it was not only painful for him but also very scary for his family watching back home.
His wife apparently jumped up right away to turn the TV off just incase he was bleeding or had to be carted off, she wanted to make sure the kids would not see that.
«As soon as it happened, my wife switched the station,» Springer said. «She didn't want them to see me potentially bleeding or being carted off the field.'' -Springer

During the interview, Springer stated this concussion was very different from any other he has had before since he was fine after the play but it was the next day that he really started feeling the symptoms.
«Concussions are weird but this one was different, unlike any I've ever had before and I've played a lot of sports,'' Springer said in a recent dugout interview. «I actually felt OK after. But the next day, I wasn't feeling so good. I didn't feel like myself and I was having problems with my vision.'' -Springer

Springer finished by stating that head injuries can be very serious which is why he made sure to follow everything the doctor was saying and not rush back to the field.
«With a head injury, the best thing to do is be smart. And be honest.'' -Springer

Clearly Springer followed the doctor's orders as he has been on fire since returning from his injury and has been a big part of the team's success this season.
