There has been one noticeable difference since Blue Jays ace Kevin Gausman has returned to the mound during spring training as he has recovered his venerable throwing speed.

For the past couple of years, Blue Jays fans have been accustomed to a mid 90 mph four seam fastball, but last season saw a dip in his speed which caused some to have some concerns.

Gausman has returned to his normal pitching speeds

In his first two Grapefruit League outings, Gausman is averaging 95.0 m.p.h. on his four-seamer, hinting at a return to form in 2025. Nick Ashbourne
With his return of his fastball back into the mid 90s, there has been improvements on all fronts of his game as he has been well known for throwing the ball hard and attacking the batters over the course of his career.
During outings when Gausman has had strong velocity, the largest benefit is an improved strikeout rate, with his K/9 sitting well above his average over the past three seasons (10.05). That improvement has come without a notable jump in walk rate or home runs allowed - a metric that often works as a handy proxy for command because poorly located balls are the pitches most likely to clear the fence. Blue Jays welcome Gausman's return to form

Blue Jays manager John Schneider along with his coaching staff welcome this uptick in Gausman's speed as the Blue Jays hope to put together a solid rotation in their pitching as Gausman will share the mound with Jose Berrios, Chris Bassitt, Max Scherzer and Bowden Francis.

The Blue Jays hope that the team will have a hot start when they begin their season on opening day as the opening rotation seems to be the only area of the team that to be set and ready to go.
With many players competing for spots in the outfield and in the infield, it remains to be seen on what the batting order will be once the season commences.
Having a stable starting rotation is certainly a positive step for the Blue Jays as the team has been surrounded by many question marks and uncertainty especially when it comes to two of their top players potentially leaving at the end of the season to free agency.
In the meantime, Blue Jays fans only have a few weeks left before the season begins and they we'll see what management has put together on the field.
