Toronto Blue Jays roster crunch has Davis Schneider in trade rumors after the Kazuma Okamoto splash.

A recent trade proposal circulating Tuesday points to a simple idea, if Toronto lands one more everyday bat, a fan-favorite bench piece could be the cleanest trade chip. The projection from SI's Jackson Roberts puts Schneider right in that spotlight.

The thing is, Schneider is not some empty roster spot. In 2025 he hit .234 with 11 homers and 31 RBIs, and both MLB.com and ESPN land on the same line.

Dig a bit deeper and the case gets stronger, his 2025 wRC+ was 127 with 1.3 WAR, plus a 15.9% walk rate that played up his on base value. That is real production in 227 plate appearances.

Davis Schneider trade chatter, Toronto Blue Jays squeeze

As a fan, I hate that the mustache might become a bargaining chip but as a roster nerd, I get why Toronto would listen.

Ross Atkins basically spelled out the pressure point Tuesday, more additions start shaving innings from “good major-league pieces,” and he even name-checked Schneider in that bucket.

Schneider's versatility is the hook for other clubs, he logged 59 games in left field and 24 at second in 2025. He was also a 28th-round pick in 2017, the kind of grinder teams love betting on.

The Blue Jays just made Okamoto official after agreeing to the four-year, $60 million deal over the weekend, and the transaction page is already moving with a DFA. That's the quiet part of “active offseason,” roster spots matter.

If Toronto adds another headline bat, Schneider will likely be the next player to be moved.
