Ken Rosenthal just tapped the brakes on Toronto Blue Jays Kyle Tucker bat talk as he does not believe they are among the top teams looking to add offense.

That matters because this front office has spent like it believes a title is in play, not just a Wild Card spot. Toronto went 94-68 in 2025, and the roster reads like a team trying to win four rounds.
Rosenthal wrote Monday that he didn't even mention the Jays among the big-market clubs hunting a bat. His reasoning was simple, the Kazuma Okamoto signing changes the urgency level.
Didn't mention Blue Jays as one of big-market teams looking for a bat. Obviously, they still could sign one of the top remaining free agents. But after getting Okamoto, I just don't view them being as needy as the other five teams I listed.
Okamoto's deal is real money, four years and $60 million, plus a $5 million signing bonus, and the team has been clear he's expected to play a lot of third base. That's not a depth move, that's a lineup decision.
Tucker is still the headline prize, though, and MLB's own rumor tracker has kept Toronto in the mix with other heavy hitters. The point is whether the Jays feel they must win that auction.

Ken Rosenthal shifts Kyle Tucker market pressure

As a Jays fan, I read that and feel both calmer and somehow more annoyed. It's nice to hear they're not desperate, but it's also hard not to want the loudest possible move.
Blue Jays fans were also not happy with these comments from Rosenthal as he seems to be downplaying how great of an off-season the Blue Jays have been having.
Goes out of his way to downplay the Blue Jays

Ken, why did you have to become a hack?
If the Mets are floating lower-than-expected numbers on Tucker, it can set a floor for everyone else, but Rosenthal's angle hints Toronto might not chase just to chase. That could mean the Jays keep their powder dry for a cleaner roster fit, or for pitching reinforcements when injuries hit.
The sneaky impact is leverage. If other clubs think Toronto is all-in for a bat, they can wait you out, raise the price, and force your hand. If they think Okamoto «solved» the need, the Jays can sit at the table without tipping over the chips.
