The Blue Jays had a tough stretch lately but with the help of Addison Barger and a few others, they were able to pull off the sweep on the Mariners this week helping them climb back towards .500.
Kevin Gausman not pleased with how the starting rotation has been playing
After the 9-1 win yesterday, Gausman spoke to the media about how the starting rotation has been playing, stating that they need to do better as they can't been consistently putting the bullpen in such tough spots.
"Us as starters, we have to do a better job,» Gausman said after his most recent start.
«We've got to get to the seventh more consistently. We're putting our bullpen in a tough spot. We don't have too much depth, so we need to keep those guys healthy. And the way that we do that is by the starters going deeper. We just have to do better.» -Gausman
Chris Bassitt also made some similar comments stating that he needs to do a better job when on the mound as he feels that over his last few starts he has been struggling and needs to do a better job.
"I don't really look at the offence,» he said. «A lot of people have made judgments about it, but I think it's more so starters, (who) I think have just got to do a little bit better job, especially me." -Bassitt
The good news is that the Blue Jays are now on a winning streak so building off of it will help them return to first in the division but even after these wins, they are still in need of some changes if they want to get into the playoffs.
Clearly the Blue Jays starting pitchers feel like they have not been delivering and need to do a better job on the mound but it certainly is not easy when they only have four real pitchers.
