MLB's commissioner Rob Manfred spoke on the probable division realignment, which would likely see the Toronto Blue Jays move from the AL East to the AL Central.

Manfred has been looking at multiple different ways to switch things up up over the last few years which this season included changing that rule 21 that bans players would not longer be in affect once a player passes away.

What would division realignment look like for the Toronto Blue Jays?

Tyson Shushkewich of Blue Jays Nation spoke on Rob Manfred's ambition to realign the divisions in the MLB if an expansion were to happen. The last time we saw an expansion was in 1998 with the Tampa Bay Rays and the Arizona Diamondbacks .
The Rays ended up joining the AL East which moved the detroit tigers to the AL Central, a move we could see happen with the Blue Jays, who were once offered to move there when the division was created.
"However, Toronto's ownership and the front office decided to stay in the division that housed the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox."-Shushkewich

"This was to capitalize on the larger fanbases and potential monetary gains of being in a division with popular teams, compared to the AL Central, which housed clubs like the Cleveland Guardians (then Indians) and the Detroit Tigers."-Shushkewich

Geographically it would make sense for the Blue Jays to move to the AL Central as they are much closer to all the clubs in that division. But being the AL East leaders this year with clubs like theNew York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox in their division it does add some notoriety for the club. They might lose that prestige leading a week AL Central division.
This would be even more interesting if Montreal were to regain a franchise, the MLB would not miss out on putting them in the same division.
If Montreal were to regain a franchise, then there is no way Major League Baseball won't have a rivalry going between the two Canadian squads. A new team in Nashville could also make things interesting for the Jays."-Shushkewich

Anyway you slice the realignment would be interesting. The Blue Jays would be taking a risk if they did move, the success they are having now in a division with the two most storied franchises in baseball would be hard to pass up in comparison to a much weaker division. However, it does allow them to be the big fish in a smaller pond, which has its advantages too.
