The Toronto Blue Jays may have fell just short this season losing in the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but they realized the potential of their brightest star in pitcher Trey Yesavage, the newcomer busted onto the scene right before the postseason began and he hasn't looked back.

The Blue Jays need to seriously consider signing him to a lengthy contact extension, because he might be baseballs next superstar.

Blue Jays could extend Yesavage this winter.

Tyson Shushkewich of Blue Jays Nation reported on the current contract situation for Yesavage and although the Blue Jays have many free agents they need to sign this offseason, Yesavage should be just as big of a priority.
"However, it is becoming a more common place tactic in today's game to lock down top prospects with zero or limited big league experience to multi-year deals. The goal is to keep arbitration figures in mind down the road, but reward the player with guaranteed money before they are eligible for free agency (and after in some cases)."-Shushkewich

Yesavage has earned a little extra money after his postseason run, with two games that stand out in particular for the record books. His start against the Yankees in the ALDS where he stuck out 11 batters and didn't surrender a hit in 6 innings solidified his name as a future star as did his World Series start with 12 strikeouts while only giving up 3 hits.
"It was an impressive debut for Yesavage, who used his plus fastball and splitter to generate a ton of whiffs with his over-the-top arm action. Not only did he take the world by storm in the minor leagues, but he's a draft success story for a Blue Jays organization that desperately needed a pitcher to emerge and take a stranglehold on a rotation spot. Because of his play, Yesavage should be pencilled in for a rotation spot next season."-Shushkeiwch

While it's not an emergency to get Yesavage signed this winter, it should certainly be looked at as an option to make contract negotiations in the future with him run more smoothly.
The Blue Jays have the opportunity to lock up one of the best younger pitchers in the world which is why this should be a priority nonetheless.
