The Toronto Blue Jays have shown quite a bit of interest in Cody Bellinger lately but it looks like the New York Yankees officially put in an offer today.
The Blue Jays have been looking to add some outfield help this off-season and while the main goal seems to be Kyle Tucker, there has been some connections to Bellinger lately.
Yankees make offer to Cody Bellinger
Bellinger was trade by the Chicago Cubs to the Yankees in exchange for Cody Poteet and cash last off-season but as he hit the free agent market, it seems as the the two parties were looking to go their separate ways.
Despite those rumors, it seems like that isn't the case since the Yankees officially put in an offer to Bellinger this week but the exact amount and size of the contract has still yet to be released.
The Yankees submitted an official offer for Cody Bellinger this week according to Jon Heyman.
Most projections have Bellinger landing a deal worth around $170 million over 6 years which would pay him an average salary of $28.3 million per season.
The Blue Jays seem to be more interested in signing Tucker but Bellinger looks like their back up plan right now which is why an offer from the Yankees could become a problem.
Losing out on one of their top targets in Bellinger would already hurt but having him go back to their divisional rivals in New York makes things that much worse.
This could end up putting some pressure on the Blue Jays to make an offer to Bellinger as well.
