Phenomenal update regarding Toronto Blue Jays Kevin Gausman
The Toronto Blue Jays are off to a strong start this season, holding a 10-8 record and sitting just half a game out of first place in the division. They'll have a chance to secure another series win on Wednesday afternoon against the struggling Atlanta Braves.
Through his first four starts of the 2025 season, 34-year-old Kevin Gausman looks like he's returned to ace form, posting a 2-1 record with a stellar 2.49 ERA and an impressive 0.71 WHIP.
Michael Brauner from the Toronto Blue Jays On Si writes that Kevin Gausman began the 2024 season as the Blue Jays' ace for the fourth straight year, following the lucrative five-year contract he signed with the team ahead of the 2022 campaign.
"Championship teams are built in-house, and the Blue Jays have found a way to get some serious production from guys who were already on the team." -Brauner
In his first two seasons with Toronto, Gausman earned top-10 finishes in the American League Cy Young voting both years. Though his 2024 performance wasn't poor, he didn't quite match the dominant and consistent form he had shown in previous seasons.
"Gausman has always been reliable, but if this is the kind of form he can continue through the season, he's going to give Toronto a chance to win a ton of games." -Brauner
The Blue Jays don't need Gausman to be a Cy Young contender every time he takes the mound; they just need him to keep doing what he's done throughout his career, and perhaps elevate his game just a little bit further.
Gausman's play as of late is clearly paying off for the Blue Jays. Hopefully he can keep it up for the rest of the season.
