Report: Bo Bichette's key condition to staying in Toronto revealed
The Toronto Blue Jays top priority heading into the off-season is keeping shortstop Bo Bichette and it looks like there is one key condition that will keep him in Toronto.
The Blue Jays are seen as the favorite to land Bichette this off-season but it looks like they will certainly have some competition as multiple teams are expected to go after him.
Blue Jays might need to meet one condition to keep Bo Bichette this off-season
Bichette will likely be the biggest name in free agency this off-season but according to reports, the Blue Jays still have a good chance of keeping him due to one key condition.
There will be a lot of teams interesting in Bichette this winter but it looks like most teams would be moving him from shortstop due to his defensive numbers but the Blue Jays are the one team willing to keep him there.
"On Tuesday, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter predicted that Bichette would stay in Toronto this winter, especially if he decides he wishes to remain a shortstop for the foreseeable future." -Roberts
"Given his poor defensive metrics, there's a chance the Blue Jays might be the only team willing to offer up a massive contract to Bo Bichette this winter without the stipulation of him moving to a less demanding position," - Reuter.
Bichette has made it clear in the past that he wants to continue playing shortstop which is where the Blue Jays will get their upper hand if no other team is willing to offer him that position.
"If staying at shortstop is a priority, they might have the upper hand to bring him back, and the club's success this year coupled with the (Vladimir Guerrero Jr.) extension also makes a reunion more likely." -Reuters
While Bichette's metrics defensively have not been great over his career, he is definitely worth keeping just for his offensive output alone.
If the Blue Jays somehow manage to lose him in free agency, they will have a seriously big gap to fill over the winter.
