Will Wagner quickly made a name for himself with an impressive debut for the Blue Jays over the final two months of the 2024 season.
Despite a strong start to the 2025 season, Blue Jays infielder Will Wagner is at risk of being sent down to the minors after multiple very poor performances during Toronto's recent losing streak
Edward Eng from the Jays Journal writes that after arriving from the Houston Astros as a major piece in the Yusei Kikuchi trade, Wagner impressed by hitting .305 with a .788 OPS, six doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBI over just 24 games. His strong showing even sparked some early Rookie of the Year buzz heading into the new season.
"After a solid start to 2025, things haven't been going as smoothly for Wagner lately. His struggles have become even more acute as of late, as he hitting a dismal .120 with seven strikeouts in his last 25 at-bats." -Eng
Eng also writes that it looks like MLB pitchers have started to adjust to Wagner, and so far he hasn't been able to make the necessary counter-adjustments to stay consistently effective.
"With that in mind, the Blue Jays might be better served by sending him down to the minor leagues to help him regain confidence in his approach at the plate and work on mechanics without the pressure of being in MLB." -Eng
The Blue Jays continue their roadtrip in New York tomorrow afternoon against the Yankees, after winning the first game of that series 4-2 on Friday night.
