Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna jr. will be missing the remainder of the 2024 MLB season due to a devastating ACL injury suffered at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday during their 8-1 victory.
This comes as a massive blow to the Braves organization as their NL MVP will be undergoing a full anterior cruciate ligament surgery and will be out of the lineup indefinitely for the foreseeable future. No timeline for his return to play has been listed yet.
The injury occurred during Acuna's huge lead off double during Sunday's game off the arm of Martín Pérez. As Acuna darted towards third base, his knee unfortunately gave out resulting in a full ACL tear in his left knee.
Initially, the the Atlanta Braves medical staff diagnosed the injury as general left knee soreness, but after an MRI, the extent of the injury was revealed emphasizing the severity of the trauma.
Acuña is currently batting .250 with four home runs and 15 RBIs in 49 games in total this season. The four-time All-Star and current NL MVP hit a career-best .337 last season with 41 homers and 106 RBIs.
Although the worst possible news is now confirmed for Braves fans and MLB enthusiasts around the league, let's hope Acuna jr. will make a speedy recovery.
