The Toronto Blue Jays surprised many when they decided to let pitcher Ryan Yarbrough go and the former Blue Jays pitcher finally opened up about the situation.
The Blue Jays decided to let Yarbrough go since he did not want to stick around without guaranteed money which looked like a mistake after Max Scherzer went down only a few days after the start of the season.
Ryan Yarbrough explains what happened with the Blue Jays
During a recent interview, Yarbrough finally opened up about how he was released by the Blue Jays stating that he felt he had a good training camp but he felt like the front office clearly wanted to go in a different direction.
«I feel like I had a good camp, everything was trending in the right direction, velocity was up from the off-season,» he continued during an interview over the weekend. «And I guess from the front-office side, they just wanted to go in a different direction." -Yarbrough
Yarbrough through some shade towards the Blue Jays during the interview stating that he felt a little strange with the entire situation and was clearly not pleased that they let him know right before the deadline at 9:30 AM.
«It was a little strange because from a player standpoint and a coaching-staff standpoint, you understood where I fit in and how I helped,» said Yarbrough.
«They told me when I did the offer, 'We're going to take it down to the deadline,' because they had other stuff they had to go through and figure out with other roster positions. And it just literally came down to the wire. They told me 9:30 that morning. " -Yarbrough
Luckily Yarbrough was able to find a quick solution and signed with the Yankees which he stated he was grateful for as he likes his new situation in New York.
«Luckily I found something really quick and it's been it's been good over here.» -Yarbrough
Yarbrough's ERA has jumped up a little since moving over to the Yankees as he currently sits at a 4.11 but it is still quite solid for such a small sample size.
