The Toronto Blue Jays are currently in contract negotiations with Vladimir Guerrero Jr and if they an unwilling to pay him around $350 million, they will have to look at trading him.
The Blue Jays are rumored to be willing to trade Vladimir Guerrero Jr this off-season
MLB insider Jon Heyman recently ranked the Guerrero in the top 4 players most likely to be trade this off-season along with Garrett Crochet, Nolan Arenado and Josh Naylor.
The New York Post's Jon Heyman ranked Guerrero at No. 4 on his list of "Top Trade Names," behind only Chicago White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet, St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado and Cleveland Guardians first baseman Josh Naylor. -Connon
Despite Guerrero being surrounded by trade rumors, the Blue Jays are not actively shopping him but Heyman believes that they might not be willing to pay him the $300+million he is set to sign for with his next contract which will force them to move him prior to his last year.
However, Heyman estimated that Guerrero could be eying a $350 million payday for his next contract. That is well above Guerrero's Spotrac market value of $260 million over 10 years, and it is more twice as large as the richest contract the Blue Jays have ever handed out - six years, $150 million to George Springer in 2021. -Connon
The problem here is that when looking at the Blue Jays future and their plans to be a World Series winning team, it does not make sense that they would not want to sign their best player who is only 25 years old to a long term deal.
Despite this move making no sense, that has not stopped Ross Atkins and company from making terrible moves in the past past.
