Toronto Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr is currently in negotiations for his next deal and was said to be looking for $450 million but is now apparently trying to get around $585 million.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr has now raised how much he wants from the Blue Jays in his contract extension
CBS sports announced yesterday that Guerrero is expected to ask for a $585 million contract over 13 years and that the only possibility of a smaller deal happening is if he is willing to take a smaller term.
Per a contract projection at CBS Sports, they expect Guerrero Jr. to ask for around $585 million on a 13-year contract.
Of course, that overall sum could change if Vladdy is open to a shorter-term deal, but if he wants the kind of security Soto got with the Mets, the Blue Jays will have to increase their offer. -Powell
The chances of Guerrero taking a smaller term to get the same salary per season is extremely small since he is looking for the same time of long term security that Juan Soto got from the New York Mets.
The clock is now running out very quickly as Guerrero told the Blue Jays that they have until the beginning of Spring Training to get a deal done or he will be entering free agency next off-season.
Guerrero Jr. has said he'd want to sign an extension prior to reporting to spring training. That is only a few weeks away. If Vladdy and the Blue Jays can't agree to a new deal before then, Guerrero Jr. is content playing out the final year of his contract. -Powell
The reasoning behind Guerrero now looking for over $550 million is that he knows that he will be able to get at least that if he enters free agency next off-season.
The Blue Jays have yet to make Guerrero an offer over $400 million so there is very little chance they go up over $500 million with their final offer.
