The Athletics announced that they have designated former Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Gio Urshela for assignment.

There has been a lot of former Blue Jays player on the move lately as relief pitcher Genesis Cabrera just signed a minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins after being DFA'd by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Athletics announced recently that they decided to cut ties with Urshela as they needed to make room on the roster after recalling infielder Brett Harris from the minors.
(ATH): Recalled INF Brett Harris & DFA'd 3B Gio Urshela
The following players have been designated for assignment:

RHP Connor Brogdon- Angels
RHP Paul Blackburn- Mets
RHP Julian Fernández- Dodgers
LHP Ryan Borucki- Pirates
SS Jacob Amaya- White Sox
3B Gio Urshela- Athletics
OF Greg Allen- Orioles
OF Jake Fraley- Reds
Urshela signed as a free agent during the off-season with the Athletics but with 0 homeruns, 20 RBIs, a .238 batting average and .287 on base percentage in 59 games, they decided to let him go.
The former Jay is almost 34 years old and after struggling this season, if he ends up back in free agency once again, it certainly will not be easy for him to land a new contract.
Urshela did not spend much time in Toronto as they acquired him back in 2018 but he only played 19 games in which he hit 1 homerun and 3 RBIs with a .233 batting average being being traded to the New York Yankees.
