The Blue Jays got a lot of international signing bonus money when they traded for Myles Straw as they wanted to sign Roki Sasaki but missed out to the Los Angeles Dodgers which now leaves them with a lot of international pool money.
The Blue Jays have apparently agreed to terms with 12 year old prospect
The Blue Jays have been looking for ways to improve their farm system which has been ranked their the bottom for the past few season and have been looking for different ways to improve their farm throughout the off-season.
According to reports, the Blue Jays have agreed to terms on a handshake deal with 12 year old Angel Montas who is set to be the top international free agent in 2028, the signing bonus they have agreed to is the largest in team history for an international prospect at $4.8 million.
"12 year old" Angel Montas is the rumored 2028 IFA that has a handshake agreement with the Blue Jays for $4.8 million. It would be the biggest signing bonus for an International Free Agent the Blue Jays have ever handed out.
This is a lot of money as the Blue Jays did not even give Vladimir Guerrero Jr this much back in 2015 when they signed him which shows how much they are willing to offer Montas.
«There are rumors in the international scouting community that (the Blue Jays) already have a 2028 player committed for around $4.5 million.»
For an idea of what that number means, that's top 2 in the class money. More than Leo De Vries got, more than Vladdy got back in 2015.
It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out over the next few years and if the Blue Jays committing to a 12 year old this early was a smart decision.
Clearly the Blue Jays have high hopes for Montas if they jumped on him this early.
