Daulton Varsho (Drafted Round 2, 2017 by Diamondbacks) is officially the undisputed captain of the outfield, and for the first time in forever, the defensive puzzle actually fits.

For months, we’ve been agonizing over how John Schneider was going to juggle the pieces.
With the massive signing of Anthony Santander (44 HR in 2024) and the breakout of Addison Barger, the "who plays where" question was getting stressful.
But the plan is finally crystal clear, and it’s brilliant.
Varsho locks down center field, where his elite range (9 OAA in 2025) makes him a legitimate Platinum Glove contender.
This allows George Springer to save his legs as the primary DH, keeping his bat in the lineup without the wear and tear of patrolling right field every day.
It’s the perfect "less is more" strategy for the veteran.
And with Barger’s cannon arm taking over right field, the defense suddenly looks terrifyingly good.

This isn't just a lineup change, it's an identity shift

As a fan, seeing the team finally prioritize defense and power simultaneously is a huge relief.
We aren't sacrificing one for the other anymore.
Santander brings the thunder from the left side, but we don't have to hide him in the field because Varsho covers so much ground he basically counts as two players.
It feels like the "run prevention" philosophy is finally clicking with the "hit bombs" reality.
Addison Barger (Drafted Round 6, 2018 by Blue Jays) gets his real shot to shine, and his energy is infectious.
This outfield configuration gives the pitching staff zero excuses.
If the ball stays in the yard, it’s getting caught.
The issue is now the the Blue Jays will now need to figure out what to do with the rest of their outfielders.
The AL East is going to be a gauntlet, but this defensive alignment is built to frustrate opponents.
Let’s see if it holds up when the games count.
