The Toronto Blue Jays have definitely invested in the pitcher departments to say the least, acquiring Dylan Cease, Chase Lee, Cody Ponce, and Tyler Rogers all in one offseason, they are going all-in on winning the World Series.
However there is one issue, Tyler Rogers is entering the season at 35 years old, and who knows how long he can last.
Will Tyler Rogers hold up for the next three years with the Blue Jays?
Cole Shelton of the Heavy reports on the risk the Blue Jays took on signing Rogers at 35 years old. The good news the sidearm pitcher doesn't rely on velocity, with only a 83MPH sinker, the bigger question is health.
"If the vesting option hits, he will be nearly 38 at the end of it, so there is a major risk in what his performance in the final year or two of the deal looks like. But, Toronto is banking on Rogers still pitching well into his late 30s, even with his velocity decreasing."-Shelton
The reliever has been impressive for the last few years, recording a 2.71 ERA since 2021, signing a three year deal at $37M is the real concern here, but one thing is for sure the Blue Jays have loaded up in the pitching department.
"With the additions now of Dylan Cease, Korean League MVP Cody Ponce and Rogers, the Jays have reinforced the pitching staff while seeing the payroll soar past where it was in 2025. It will soar even higher if they can re-sign Bo Bichette, which now feels more likely given this spending spurge so far"-Shelton
Given his lack of reliance on velocity there is a good chance that Rogers remains effective for some time, his sidearm delivery is what makes life more difficult for hitters, but only time will tell if the reliever can keep up with the league.
