Tonight at 6PM is the deadline for the Rule 5 draft in which if a player that is 18 or younger when he signed needs to be added to the teams 40 man roster or he will be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft.
To figure out which prospects need to be protected, the rule states, "Players signed at age 18 or younger need to be added to their club's 40-Man roster within five seasons or they become eligible for the Rule 5 Draft. Players who signed at age 19 or older need to be protected within four seasons."
Former Blue Jays Gunnar Hoglund added to the Athletics 40 man roster
The Athletics announced that they have added Hoglund along with a few other prospects to their 40 man roster to avoid losing them to the Rule 5 Draft in which the deadline is tonight.
The Athletics acquired Hoglund as part of the trade that ended up sending third baseman Matt Chapman to the Toronto Blue Jays back in 2022 despite Ross Atkins being unable to keep him there the following season.
