Blue Jays sign former Phillies first baseman Buddy Kennedy
A surprising new signing was announced by the Blue Jays yesterday as they agreed to a minor league deal with former Phillies first baseman Buddy Kennedy and have assigned him to the Buffalo Bisons in Triple-A.
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed Buddy Kennedy to a minor league contract. The infielder has a .283 batting average along with 229 extra-base hits throughout his minor league career.
NEWS: Buddy Kennedy will not be returning to the Phillies. He has signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays and has joined the AAA Buffalo roster.
So far this season
Kennedy has only played 4 games in the majors for the Phillies in which he has had 7 at bats with zero hits and 2 strikeouts.
However, 26 year old has been solid in the minors as he has 8 homeruns and 41 RBIs in 62 games this season including a .281 batting average and .385 on base percentage.
In
Kennedy's first game with the Bisons, he went 1 for 5 at the plate with an RBI and 1 strikeout.
This is an interesting move by the Blue Jays but after being forced to trade Robertson yesterday after DFA'ing him, it only makes sense that they looked for some sort of replacement.
