Toronto Blue Jays Vladimir Guerrero junior and Toronto Maple Leafs Mitch Marner appear to be heading down a similar path as both are heading to unrestricted free agency with no deals insight from their respective clubs.

Both superstars Had told their teams that they would not negotiate during the season and would rather have solved their contract issues prior to the season beginning. Both the Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs failed to solve this issue, and both franchises are now looking at a similar ending.

Marner and Guerrero Jr both want the same ending

Both players have told the media and the fan base of both franchises that they both want to be part of the long-term solution for the Leafs and for the Blue Jays.
Guerrero junior has watched other teams spend large sums of money to retain the services of superstars like Juan Soto and Shonei Ohtani and feels that he fits in that group of players.
The magic number for Vlad Jr.: $500M in present value, sources say.

Well both parties have told the media that they both had their number in their sights, it appeared that the Blue Jays and Guerrero Jr could not find a compromise.
Now with the Grapefruit League underway and opening day just a few weeks away, the Blue Jays now will have to sit and wait and see if there would be an opening to send to Guerrero's camp especially if the Jays have a hot start.
As for Marner, he made it very clear that he would not discuss negotiations during the season and overall, that has held up over the course of the last six months.
News broke during the NHL trade deadline that the Maple Leafs had asked Marner if he'd be willing to waive his no movement clause as a pending trade was set with the Carolina Hurricanes to send Mikko Rantanen to Toronto in exchange for Marner.
Marner declined and both parties went to the media to explain their positions. It's safe to say that Marner will likely head to free agency and will listen to offers from other teams, but his message has been steady the entire time that he wishes to remain in Toronto.

Fans wait and watch to see where Guerrero Jr and Marner go

Both franchises and their fan base will now have to wait and see what will happen next as many fans across both franchises want to see both players remain in Toronto for the foreseeable future.
With the NHL season winding down and Major League Baseball starting up it will be a long wait for both issues to be resolved but both could come at the same time which will be in July.
«If Mitch wanted to be here, the contract is there He is at the mercy of what comes with not deciding.»

The NHL free agency begins on July 1st and the Major League Baseball trade deadline happens in July as well which could mean both teams could See their beloved players either sign a long-term deal or walk away or be traded depending on how the Blue Jays season goes.
