The Toronto Blue Jays are all in on blockbuster trade to help their bullpen
The Toronto Blue Jays have been looking for a solution to their struggling bullpen all off-season and they might have found the solution in St Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Ryan Helsley.
The Blue Jays have been in search on their main closer to start the 2025 season ever since they decided to non-tender Jordan Romano but have only signed Josh Walker and Yimi Garcia who will surely not be taking on that role.
The Blue Jays seem all in on trying to land Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley
MLB insider Mark Powell believes that Helsleyis a great option for the Blue Jays as he is headed into the final year of his contract and as the Cardinals are looking to rebuild, they will try to move him for a few young players.
FanSided's Mark Powell proposed a trade that would bring Ryan Helsley to the Blue Jays from the St. Louis Cardinals. Helsley will be a free agent following the 2024 season and the Cardinals seem to be rebuilding. -Mohammed
Powell also stated that Helsley is of course attracting the interest of multiple teams and the Blue Jays will have to put together a solid offer if they plan on outbidding these other teams and he will not be cheap.
"The Blue Jays are one of several teams interested in St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley, though he will not come cheap," wrote Powell. "Toronto isn't in desperate need of bullpen help, but their decision to non-tender Jordan Romano could come back to haunt them if they aren't able to land Helsey. The Blue Jays currently feature Chad Green and Yimi Garcia in late-inning roles, which leaves a lot to be desired." -Powell
Helsley is coming off an incredible year on a rough Cardinals team in which he led the MLB in saves last season while posting a 2.044 ERA and struck out 79 batters in that time.
If the Blue Jays can land him, this will give them a very solid bullpen between him, Chad Green and Yimi Garcia.
Hopefully Ross Atkins will be able to put a solid offer together for the Cardinals that will push the Blue Jays to the top of the list but he needs to act fast if he truly wants to land him.
