The Toronto Blue Jays are calling up all-star prospect to replace Nathan Lukes
The Toronto Blue Jays announced before their game yesterday that outfielder Nathan Lukes has gone down with a neck injury and it looks like they have found his replacement.
Prior to the game starting against the Cardinals last night, the Blue Jays announce that Nathan Lukes was scratched due to neck pain from an injury he sustained against the Minnesota Twins.
Blue Jays announce Nathan Lukes replacement in Will Robertson
The Blue Jays announced that
Robertson has been called up from Triple-A and has joined the team in St Louis but it is still unclear on if he will play or is simply their as a reserve player.
Will Robertson, a 27-year-old outfielder with a .991 OPS at triple-A, will be on hand at Busch Stadium for the Toronto Blue Jays' series finale against the Cardinals Wednesday, an industry source told Sportsnet. -Nicholson-Smith
Since the Blue Jays do not seem certain on how long Lukes will be out with his injury, it seems unclear on
Robertson's role moving forward as his replacement.
It's unclear whether Robertson will join the active roster or simply be available on the taxi squad, but it's worth noting that neck discomfort forced outfielder Nathan Lukes out of the starting lineup Tuesday, so Robertson's presence could be linked to the status of Lukes. -Nicholson-Smith
If the Blue Jays were to use Robertson, they would need to select his contract and add him to the 40 man roster but would not have to remove any players since they currently have two open spots.
Adding Robertson to the big-league roster would require selecting his contract to the 40-man roster, but the team has two open spots now so no corresponding 40-man move would be required. -Nicholson-Smith
Robertson clearly deserves to see some action in the majors as he has been on fire in Buffalo this season with 12 homeruns, 35 RBIs, a .288 batting average and .583 on base percentage.
