Blue Jays are interested in signing Canadian free agent Mike Soroka to help bullpen
The Blue Jays have been linked to multiple relief pitchers this off-season and the latest one if Canadian free agent Mike Soroka who is coming off a rough season with the Chicago White Sox.
Soroka started off the season as a starting pitcher where he went 0-5 with a 6.39 ERA but turned things around in a massive way once he was moved to the bullpen as his ERA dropped down to 2.75.
After being hit hard in his first nine appearances as a starter for the Southsiders, the 27-year-old posted some impressive stats after being moved to a relief role. Soroka went 0-5 with a 6.39 ERA, with a .856 opponents' OPS allowed, and a paltry 12% strikeout rate, which equaled his walk rate. -Wallace
Although he wasn't credited with a win all season, Soroka saw his ERA shrink to 2.75, his K rate more than triple, to 39%, and his opponents' OPS slashed to .589. Sure, this was in a sample size of just 36 innings pitched, and the walk rate is a bit alarming, but the hope is that the former Braves stud has reached a new level as a reliever -Wallace
There is some risks involved surrounding Soroka since he has battled a ton of injuries over the last couple years and has been seen some struggles on field but in a bullpen role, he seems to have found his game once again.
If the Blue Jays are able to land him at a low price, brining in Soroka could be an interesting move for their bullpen that would not cost them too much so it would end up being a low risk high reward situation.
