The Toronto Blue Jays have the 8th overall pick at the upcoming 2025 MLB Draft which will take place on July 13-14 and looks like they are eyeing Ike Irish with that pick.

The MLB draft is approaching rapidly and despite the Blue Jays getting a disappointing 8th overall pick after a very rough 2024 season, they could still end up with a great baseball player.

Blue Jays looking to possibly draft catcher Ike Irish with 8th overall pick

The Blue Jays are apparently very interested in going after highly ranked Ike Irish with their 8th overall pick, a 6'2 catcher from Auburn University and was recently project to go to Toronto in a ESPN mock draft.
Irish is a left-handed batting catcher who was born in Michigan and played collegiate ball for Auburn University. He stands at 6'2», 210 lbs and was projected to go to the Blue Jays in Kiley McDaniel's most recent mock draft for ESPN. -Delaney

The last time the Blue Jays took a position player in the first round of the MLB draft was back in 2020 when they took Austin Martin with the fifth pick in the draft who turned out to be quite the bust.
The last time the Jays picked a collegiate position player was in the last draft that they had a top 10 pick, as they selected Austin Martin fifth overall in the 2020 draft. -Delaney

Irish had a very good season in college this year as he finished with 19 homeruns, a .364 batting average and a .469 on base percentage in 258 plate appearances.
He's put everything together in his final collegiate season, as Irish slashed .364/.469/.710 with 19 home runs in 258 plate appearances. Paired with a 12.8 BB% and a 14.3 K%, Irish finished the season with a 152 wRC+. -Delaney

The other upside to Irish is that he played quite a few games this season in right field which means this will give the Blue Jays more option with him down the line since he is a solid catcher and outfielder.
