With the second Wild Card spot in hand and only three games behind the first-place New York Yankees, the Blue Jays have plenty to think about as the trade deadline approaches.
While pinpointing idea trade targets is no simple task, here are a few players Toronto might consider dealing if they aim to make a serious push in 2025.
Matthew Spanuolo from Blue Jays Nation writes that
Joey Loperfido was one of the players the Blue Jays received from the Astros last season in the deal that sent Yusei Kikuchi to
the Houstan Astros.
"Loperfido is currently second on the team in RBIs (36) and behind only Will Robertson (39), who spent some time in the big leagues earlier this year.
He's authored a .275/.354/.420 slash line with the Bisons and has 10 stolen bases on the year. He's struck out just 63 times in 71 games and has chipped in six home runs as well." -Spanuolo
The Blue Jays' No. 3 prospect has struggled out of the gate this season. Last year proved challenging for Orelvis Martinez as well, shortly after making his MLB debut, he was handed an 80-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy.
"Although he bounced back with a strong showing in spring training, where he hit .320 with a home run and three RBIs, Martinez was ultimately optioned back to triple-A, where his season has taken a rough turn.
He's hitting just .190 through 66 games and has one of the lowest OPS marks among regulars in the lineup at .640. Still, one down year doesn't mean he's doomed. Martinez showed promise last season, hitting .267 with 17 home runs and 49 RBIs in 74 games." -Spanuolo
Lastly, Davis Schneider is batting just .170 for Toronto this season, with one home run and five RBI's, and has already been demoted once.
While he performed well in Triple-A during his stint there, that success hasn't carried over the big leagues this year. However, his appeal to other teams could lie in his raw power and defensive versatility.
Last season, he logged 93 games in left field and 56 at second base.
Teams looking for roster flexibility might see value in a player like Schneider, and trading him could help the Blue Jays address more immediate areas of need.
