The Toronto Blue Jays traded Teoscar Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners a few years back and after Erik Swanson was just DFA'd it is safe to say Toronto lost this trade.
Blue Jays clearly lost their trade with the Mariners after Erik Swanson is DFA'd
Back in 2022, the Blue Jays ended up trading Teoscar Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for pitchers Erik Swanson and prospect Adam Macko.
The Blue Jays decided to surprisingly DFA Swanson yesterday after he returned from IL earlier in the month and has a horrendous 5.1 innings pitched with a 15.19 ERA which is why they decided to move on from him.
After just 5.1 innings back from injury, the Blue Jays decided to move on from Erik Swanson who was DFA'd to make room for Justin Bruihl in the bullpen. -Dionis
Swanson was a massive part of the bullpen during the 2023 season as he finished with a 2.97 ERA in 66.2 innings pitched and 75 strikeouts but unfortunately has not been that pitcher since.
While the Blue Jays still have Macko from that trade who is putting up decent numbers in Triple-A this season with a 4.07 ERA in 24.1 innings pitched but when thinking that the Blue Jays gave up Hernandez for that, it is clear they lost the trade.
Macko still has a future ahead of him, despite falling in the team prospect rankings over the years. He has been up to the 9th ranked prospect in the organization per MLB Pipeline, but has fallen. His numbers haven't been awful either, posting a 4.07 ERA with a 2.47 FIP. -Dionis
Losing a player of Hernandez' caliber for a pitcher that was just DFA and a Triple-A prospect is hard to justify which is why the Blue Jays clearly lost this trade.
