Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer spoke to the media this morning regarding his thumb injury it is apparently much worse than everyone originally thought.
Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer speaks on his thumb injury
Scherzer has been out since last week after injury his thumb on his throwing arm which apparently has to do with nerve damage which is an issue he has been dealing with since 2023.
The Blue Jays pitcher spoke to MLB insider Keegan Matheson this morning stating that just gripping the baseball is causing him pain, adding that his thumb is a critical part to his pitching.
Max Scherzer on what he's dealing with:
«My thumb hurts. It hurts to grip the ball. The critical thing I've learned over the years here is that your thumb is absolutely critical to your arm health. Unfortunately, this is what I've been dealing with since 2023.» #BlueJays
According to Matheson, Scherzer stated that he started feeling a problem in his thumb around the time he hit the 50 pitch mark which apparently similar to issues he has dealt with over the last two seasons.
Max Scherzer tells us that his thumb is giving him problems again after hitting the 50-pitch mark.
Scherzer spoke about how critical the thumb is to a pitcher's arm health, citing 2023 and 2024 as examples where a similar issue led to other injuries elsewhere. #BlueJays
Despite Schneider trying to remain optimistic about the issue, this certainly does not look good as Scherzer only appeared in 9 games last season for the Texas Rangers due to this injury.
Hopefully he is able to pull through this but it is not looking good as of right now.
