The Blue Jays might be forced to trade prospect Hagen Danner this off-season
Danner had a great season in Triple-A in 2024 as he put up an impressive 3.06 ERA in 35.1 innings pitched which gave him a 3-0 record and 7 saves on the season which has turned him into one of the Blue Jays top prospects.
The 26-year-old has only pitched a third of an inning in his big league career before an oblique injury ended his 2023 season. This past year in Buffalo, the right-handed pitcher had a 3.15 ERA and a 4.24 FIP in 34.1 innings pitched, along with a 23.3 K% and an 8.9 BB%. -Delaney
Unfortunately, Danner is currently out of minor league options which means the Blue Jays will have to decide if they put him of their 40 man roster if not he will have to be placed on waivers before being sent down to Triple-A.
With all that being said, the Blue Jays are in a tough spot with Danner, as he'll almost certainly be claimed off waivers if he doesn't make the Blue Jays roster out of Spring Training. -Delaney
Since Danner has a ton of potential to be a major league reliever, if the Blue Jays decide to place him on waivers, he will likely attract a lot of attention and will get claimed by another team.
Being that Danner would likely get picked up off waivers, the Blue Jays might be forced to look into trading him since he has some solid value and it would make no sense to lose him for nothing.
Since the Blue Jays seem to have so few solid prospects that could potentially make the jump to the majors in the near future, holding onto to Danner seems like the clear choice but that does not mean that GM Ross Atkins will do it.
