Yesavage earns top pitching prospect title for Blue Jays
Yesavage has been ranked as #2 prospect in the Blue Jays for a picture and considered the highest prospect in their pitching.
After getting his first strikeout on a cutter, Trey Yesavage spots a 96.5-mph fastball down and in for a called third strike.
He spoke about how his game shaped up against the Twins and how nervous he felt prior to making it to the mound.
«When I got out there, my heart was beating like crazy,» Yesavage said. «It's my first professional baseball outing, so I kind of expected it, but I was able to settle myself down in the dugout and focus on what I needed to do.» - Trey Yesavage
Yesavage also explained the process for him to be with the Blue Jays and how he was finally happy to be pitching in a Blue Jays uniform.
«It's definitely been long, slow and methodical,» Yesavage said. «Every detail has been accounted for. It's amazing to finally be out there pitching in a Blue Jays uniform.» Trey Yesavage
Blue Jays organization thrilled to draft Yesavage in 2024
The Blue Jays organization were ecstatic to land Yesavage in the 2024 draft at 20th overall.
Many prospects during that early parts of the draft had injuries and other issues that they were dealing with but the Blue Jays were prepared to work on him and have him ready for the mound.
Joe Sclafani who is the Blue Jays director of player development has given high praise and high hopes for the young prospect who is expected to be contesting for a spot in the rotation in 2026.
«Trey's just a special dude. He's got a blue-collar mentality that we love,» said Joe Sclafani, the Blue Jays' director of player development. «He goes about his business really well.
«We were super excited to get him in the Draft, and he's done nothing but impress us, not only when he's throwing bullpens and preparing for this year, but even last year when we shut him down. He has a good way about him. He has a slow heartbeat, but he's two different guys between the lines and off the field. When he's between the lines, that competitor comes out.» Joe Sclafani
The Blue Jays also have Ricky Tiedemann within their pitching ranks who is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery and will also be challenging the mound next year as he will be ready for the 2026 spring training.
With several free agents coming up within the Blue Jays next off season, these two prospects are certainly exciting to see become available and potentially challenge for a roster spot.
