The Toronto Blue Jays announced that they have reached an agreement with veteran pitcher Jorge Alcala.

The Blue Jays have had a busy afternoon as this is now the second deal of the day that Ross Atkins and the front office have closed.
Earlier this afternoon, the Blue Jays agreed to a minor league deal with former Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Geovanny Planchart.

This is a great low risk, high reward move for the Blue Jays is coming off a rough year in 2025 but had a 3.24 ERA in 2024 with the Minnesota Twins.
Despite bouncing around a total of three teams last season between the Boston Red Sox, St Louis Cardinals and Minnesota Twins, Alcala did have some great moments. During his time with the Red Sox, Alcala finished with a 3.31 ERA in 19 games along with 1 save and 18 strikeouts but was then designated for assignment.
Alcala has great velocity on his fastball which clocked in at 100.3 during his time with the Red Sox last season.
Top 5 fastest thrown pitches by a different Red Sox pitcher last year

1. Aroldis Chapman - 103.8
2. Payton Tolle - 100.8
3. Jorge Alcala 100.3
4. Garret Crochet - 100.2
5. Luis Guerrero - 99.0

What surprises you most?
Depending on how well Alcala plays in Spring Training, there is a solid chance he could surprise some people and make the Opening Day roster.
