The Toronto Blue Jays have announced another signing as they have agreed to a deal with former Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Geovanny Planchart.
The Blue Jays have been rather quiet over the last couple days with their only transaction being the trade they completed with the Cleveland Guardians which saw Justin Bruihl moved in exchange for cash considerations.
Blue Jays sign Geovanny Planchart
Planchart and the Blue Jays have reached an agreement on a minor league deal and have already assigned him to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Double-A.
Last season with the Pirates High-A affiliate team the Greensboro Grasshoppers, Planchart finished with 3 home runs and 18 RBIs in 56 games with a .193 batting average.

This seems to be a solid minor league signing for the Blue Jays who have lacked catcher depth over the years and seem to be trying to avoid that problem moving forward.
There has been no details yet on if Planchart will receive a major league Spring Training invitation but the chances are quite slim since he only played in High-A last season.
Planchart's goal this season will likely to play in Double-A for the entire season with a chance of getting called up to the Buffalo Bisons in Triple-A if he plays well with the Fisher Cats.
Despite this not being a massive signing, it looks to be a solid move by Ross Atkins and the front office.
