Toronto Blue Jays prospect Alan Roden has made a good impression with the coaching staff and the rest of the organization as he attempts to lock in a roster spot this spring training.
Many in the organization have watched Roden's progress after he was drafted in the 2022 MLB draft in the third round.
He has now been placed at the 5th overall prospect within the pipeline which is great news for Roden and the Blue Jays.
Roden working hard with Blue Jays this Spring Training
Roden has been working hard on his game and learning over the past several years and it appears that the work is paying off as his stock continues to climb within the organization and has a shot at locking down a spot for Opening Day while pushing a veteran like Myles Straw out of the way.
The outfielder is raking this spring, batting an out-of-this-world .438 (7-for-16) through 11 games and 24 plate appearances. His performance this camp doesn't come without pressure, either, as last month, GM Ross Atkins dubbed Roden the player he's most looking forward to seeing. Manager John Schneider felt the same as Atkins. CJ Haddad
With his strong play, it's likely he may not find a position as the outfield to be locked with Anthony Santander, George Springer and Dalton Varsho manning those positions.
«It's all been about making adjustments and continuing to get better and stick with the process,» Roden said of his approach since getting drafted. «I know everybody says that, but that's how it is in baseball.» Alan Roden
Blue Jays happy to see depth in organization
The Blue Jays continued to work through spring training and seem pleased with their depth players showing their talents as the team was won 5 of their last 10 games in the month of March.
The Blue Jays have produced some decent numbers in offence which was one of the major concerns for this team over the past several weeks.
Yesterday, Alan Roden did it with the bat. Today, he's doing it with the glove
Despite being spring training, the Blue Jays are preparing for opening day and will likely have their rosters set within the next week or so.
Despite some dark clouds facing the organization, the team seems to be responding well to their new hitting coach Dave Popkins.
The Blue Jays next game will be against the Minnesota Twins at TD ballpark in Dunedin Florida on March 11th and first pitch will be thrown at 1:07 PM eastern.
