The Toronto Blue Jays have shown a lot of interest in Arizona Diamondbacks Ketel Marte but it looks like nothing will be happening after all.

Ken Rosenthal reported a source says Marte will remain in Arizona and will not be traded. For a winter full of speculation, that is the cleanest possible line to draw.

Arizona finished 80-82 in 2025, then watched the market ask whether it was time to cash in on its best infield bat. Keeping Marte signals the front office is still chasing wins, not resets.
Marte is 32 and signed a $116.5 million extension through 2031 last April, so he is not a rental carrot. Spotrac lists his 2026 total salary at $16 million, and MLB Trade Rumors noted his deal includes a five-team no-trade clause.
He backed it up in 2025, hitting .283 with 28 homers, 72 RBIs, and an .893 OPS in 126 games. FanGraphs and ESPN both land on the same line, and it plays anywhere.
The Blue Jays were looking at Marte as a potential replacement for Bo Bichette but despite being shopped around by Arizona over the past few weeks, it looks like he will be sticking around.

Ketel Marte stays, Arizona Diamondbacks steady

Marte's value is how he shortens at-bats and still does damage, because pitchers cannot just spam breaking balls to one side. He can start rallies with line drives, then punish mistakes into the pool.
Defensively, he is most comfortable at second base now, and that keeps the middle infield cleaner for the rest of the roster. It also frees Arizona to shop for help at third without moving pieces around.
The bigger picture is simple, an 80-win club does not trade its heartbeat unless it is forced. The next milestone is spring training, where Marte staying turns every other move into a true win-now tweak.
